چکیده

Methods modeled by partial differential equations (PDEs), and wavelet-based shrinkage procedures belong to the most successful approaches to nonlinear signal processing. The two groups of methods are quite different on the first glance: PDE based methods find the solution iteratively, while wavelet shrinkage performs a single step on multiple scales of the signal. On the examples of total-variation (TV) diffusion on one hand, and translation-invariant soft Haar wavelet shrinkage on the other, we study the role of iterations and multiple scales for nonlinear filtering. Iterations and multi-scale processing go in the same direction in the sense that they allow simple, local operations to lead to global effects. We demonstrate that it may be advantageous to combine both, and create a powerful and efficient iterative multi-scale nonlinear procedure.

Transmission Properties of the Periodic Structures Based on Graphene Nonlinear Optical Conductivity in a Terahertz Field

By developing the terahertz (THz) technology, in addition to generators and detectors of THz waves, the existence of some tools such as modulators and filters are needed. THz filters are important tools for various applications in the field of chemical and biological sensors. Linear and nonlinear optical properties of the graphene have attracted lots of attention. In fact graphene exhibits vari...

Development of Nonlinear Lattice-Hammerstein Filters for Gaussian Signals

In this paper, the nonlinear lattice-Hammerstein filter and its properties are derived. It is shown that the error signals are orthogonal to the input signal and also backward errors of different stages are orthogonal to each other. Numerical results confirm all the theoretical properties of the lattice-Hammerstein structure.

A Test of a Modular, Wall Adapted Nonlinear Filter Model for Underresolved Flows

A . Stabilization using filters is intended to model and extract the energy lost to resolved scales due to nonlinearity breaking down resolved scales to unresolved scales. This process is highly nonlinear. We consider nonlinear filters which select eddies for damping (simulating breakdown) based on knowledge of how nonlinearity acts in real flow problems. The particular form of the nonlinear fi...

Utilizing Kernel Adaptive Filters for Speech Enhancement within the ALE Framework

Performance of the linear models, widely used within the framework of adaptive line enhancement (ALE), deteriorates dramatically in the presence of non-Gaussian noises. On the other hand, adaptive implementation of nonlinear models, e.g. the Volterra filters, suffers from the severe problems of large number of parameters and slow convergence. Nonetheless, kernel methods are emerging solutions t...

Application of the method of multiple scales for nonlinear vibration analysis of mechanical systems with dry and lubricated clearance joints

In this study, the method of multiple scales is used to perform a nonlinear vibration analysis of a mechanical system in two cases; with dry and lubricated clearance joints. In the dry contact case, the Lankarani-Nikravesh model is used to represent the contact force between the joined bodies. The surface elasticity is modeled as a nonlinear spring-damper element. Primary resonance is discussed...
